Deputy Leader  Phil Boon

Meet at: Pavello Esportiu Municipal in Carrer de Gabriel Miro (Oliva Sports Centre)

Meeting Day: Fridays at 11am     Next session: Friday 13 December.

Walking football is a form of the beautiful game designed for those of more advanced years who thought their footballing careers were over! We want players to have fun and get some worthwhile exercise at the same time.  As the name implies, running is not allowed and there will be minimal contact. It’s a game of skill, not physicality!

The group is aimed at all ages and abilities, male and female, and everyone is welcome. The game itself is governed by a set of laws drawn up by the English FA and, although we want everyone to have fun, the games will be played seriously and refereed to a good standard. We will play a six-a-side format or more where possible.

We are using a hard (blue) surface, five-a-side pitch which is located on the far side of the full size football pitch when you come out of the back doors of the sports centre reception hall. If numbers allow, we can also play on the astroturf pitch next door. Please note that you can actually cut through to the pitch directly from the car park, there is no need to detour through the reception. There is ample free parking at the centre.

Kit required – decent quality trainers (no football boots or flip flops), a shirt with sleeves (T shirts are fine), shorts or tracksuit bottoms and socks (any length). The FA also stipulates shin pads, but they won’t be mandatory. We have gloves for those playing in goal.

Spectators are welcome, if you're not sure about playing, come down and have a look first!

The next session will be on Friday, 13 December. Please arrive by 10.45am to allow for a short warm up, etc.

Remember, if you want to play, you can attend twice as a visitor/guest to see if you like it, but after that you need to be a fully paid up member of Oliva U3A. And if you want to receive group e-mails, remember to tick the Walking Football Group box in your personal profile details.  The fee remains at 2 euros per session.

Latest News

I had a look at the 4G pitches at Oliva Tennis Club as a possible alternative venue, but they are bigger than our current pitch and would need 7-a-side to make them viable. Also, they want 25 euros an hour hire fee! So no go at the moment.

Only two sessions to go in 2019, so make sure you come down on Friday and work off those mince pies!
